Having a scifi story from the perspective of an elderly woman was surprising. It works though: I thoroughly enjoyed the curmudgeonly internal monologue. The story is a slow burn, but that suits it, and in a way the story is not the point. Ofelia is the point.

A surprisingly touching story about how people cope (denial, fantasy, keeping calm and carrying on, oh and lots of booze). It initially all seems ludicrous, until you start fully realising the situation they're in. There's no reprieve, no last minute clever vaccine, no safe haven.
