I usually have three books on the go, one fiction and one non-fiction and one audiobook that my wife and I listen to over dinner. Fiction: SF, sapphic romance, thrillers, mysteries. Non-fiction: Biology, paleontology, politics, communication.

This was a nuanced, and at times poetic, look at the challenges of having, and being, a trans kid. It was also a kind of fairy tale. I particularly liked the dialogue, which had the snappiness of 1940s films.

Entertaining mystery with a relatable romance

The second Jess Lea I've read and I'll definitely be watching out for more. A feast of tasty red herrings and colurfully suspicious charaters. The romance takes second place to the murder mystery, but it's relatable and engaging and woven into the plot. We listened to the audiobook version read by Cat Gould, who manages a dry, wry tone without sounding uninvolved.
